At the Washington Travel Clinic, we work with you to accommodate your schedule as much as possible. Our clients find that our online appointment service is very convenient; it allows you to securely register, make appointments, and reschedule or cancel your appointment with a few clicks. Appointment confirmations and reminders are automatically sent to you via e-mail. If you wish to discuss your visit prior to making an appointment, we will be glad to answer your questions. Most of the time, Dr. Akl answers the phone personally. If not, the receptionist will transfer the call to him if she is unable to answer your questions. During your visit, you get to see a physician specialized in Infectious Diseases and Travel Medicine. Dr. Akl will usually take your medical information and ask you about your itinerary – this allows him to determine which vaccines you should receive and what other preventive measures you should take. Dr. Akl administers the necessary vaccines himself during the same visit. He uses very thin needles which make your experience almost painless. Administered vaccines are recorded on an international certificate of vaccination and your physician is sent a letter documenting the vaccines you received. Additional information on travel precautions is discussed and sent to you via e-mail at the time of your visit. Needed prescriptions are also provided and are filled at the pharmacy. For your convenience, your prescription can be immediately sent electronically to a pharmacy of your choice -- this way you won't have to wait for it to be filled. Blood tests, when needed, are drawn in the office (DC location) or in the same building (Chevy Chase location). At the end of your visit, follow-up appointments and payments are conveniently made in the same exam room, which is why our clients call us a one-stop shop. They also describe their experience as “painless,” “easy,” “efficient,” “fast” or “convenient.” In case of an emergency, you can reach Dr. Akl personally 24/7 at the regular office number. We are conveniently located in downtown DC, which makes us easily accessible by metro during busy rush hours. Our Chevy Chase location is near the red line, and the Tysons Corner location is close to the orange line. In addition to the individual vaccines, our regular visit fee is $50, which includes a full travel consultation and covers all necessary prescriptions. Families are charged a flat $100 fee. The regular visit fee is valid for one year during which follow-up visits and requests for prescription refills are free of charge. If only one vaccine is needed and no consultation is requested, the visit fee is $25 (the cost of the vaccine is additional). The cost of a TB test is $50 total (no visit fee involved). If a consultation is needed after your trip because of illness, Dr. Akl is also available to see you, and your initial visit is free if you had a full consultation with him before your travel. A copy of your medical records is a mouse-click away and is sent to you by e-mail upon request.
